In memory of our beautiful, regal greyhound, Leihla

Hello There, VivBounty here with a broken heart to share the sad news of the departure of our beautiful, brave, regal, greyhound, Leihla to her rightful place on the rainbow bridge where she will join our tribe in heaven.

Leihla, beautiful, regal, loving, happy 10-year-old greyhound

Leihla was a re-homed greyhound who came to us on January 28th, 2012. She taught us so much about greyhounds, and unconditional love. She lovingly accepted a "brother", greyhound, Ackers into her life and even in her last months, tolerated a new kitten, Tabi-Tabitha. She made many friends in our little village and loved children.

The first time I saw Leihla run free

The neighbourhood "posse", ranging in age from 5 to 11, boys and girls alike, would join us for our walks down the Trans Canada Trail and across the beautiful Gaspereau River. She would stand for ages just enjoying the fresh air. The first time I ever saw her run free and strong was at our groomer and friend, Angela of Posh Pet Grooming Studio and to say it was impressive and awesome, would surely be an understatement.

Thank you Angela for the priceless memories in the many photos you took of our beautiful, majestic greyhound, Leihla. I am sure Zuri was waiting to welcome her to the rainbow bridge along with Pedro and Scampy when she arrived. I know for sure my dad was.

Ackers comforts Leihla. He knew her suffering long before we did.

Annette came to bless Leihla with tears of farewell for all of her people friends.

Among Leihla's many friends, was sweet Annette who got to see her in her final days. It was such a blessing to get these photos. This moment was sacred and represented all Leihla's people friends who loved her and could not be there to say "goodbye" before she left for the rainbow bridge. Thank you so much Annette.

Daddy feels both their suffering and sadness

This beautiful tribute was borrowed from my cousin, Robert whose family lost their loving furry child, Sydney. See their post here on Facebook

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must done,
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test,
we have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end and hold me firm and speak to me,
until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree,
it is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail it's last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you,
who has to decide this thing to do;
we've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

With heavy hearts we say goodbye to our sweet greyhound, Leihla.
We will forever love you and look forward to meeting again someday on the Rainbow Bridge.

Until next time, cherish your pets. They just don’t live long enough.

So sad to hear. Glad we were able to play a part in getting your girl up to NB. She sure was special.

    • Thank you so much, Cherri Belyea! We were so grateful to meet up with you at the Maritime Greyhound picnic where out of 55 greyhounds, you spotted Leihla in the water for a happy family reunion. You were her first mom, straight from the track. You did such a wonderful job getting her ready to live in a home, that she was perfectly behaved. As Odette and Mario said, if ever there was a perfect dog, Leihla was it. Thank you again for being in our family. Leihla had a wonderful retirement beginning with you and Barry.
