Hero Mom Dog Saves Puppies From Fire

Hello There VivBounty here with a heartwarming story from the Daily Mail UK courtesy of Soy, Chile

Touching pictures of a dog rescuing her ten-day-old puppies from a house fire and carrying them to safety have emerged on the internet.

The blaze broke out at a home in Santa Rosa de Temuco, Chile, on Thursday after a car bomb went off.

The mother dog – a German Shepherd mix called Amanda – risked her life to pick up the puppies in her mouth and carried them from the burning house to the safety of the fire truck.

She ran between the house and truck over and over again until all puppies were safe.

After rescuing all of her pups from the blaze, Amanda sat down next to them, protecting them with her body as the firefighters fought the blaze.

Amanda and her puppies were then taken to a vet where one puppy called Amparo, who had suffered severe burns, died.

The other four puppies were doing well.

The vet, Felipe Lara, told Soy Chilethat Amanda had defended her puppies when they tried to take them away from her to care for them.

Eventually she let them check over her pups but she wanted to stay with ailing Amparo and did not want to let her from her sight.

The pictures first appeared on online social board reddit and quickly became the main story of the day.

Giving Thanks For Leihla The Ex-Racer Greyhound

Hello there, VivBounty here to say a quick but VERY BIG “Thank You” to God for the blessing of our beautiful Leihla.

This past weekend was Thanksgiving Day in Canada and as it happens was also Leihla’s 8th birthday. As you’ll see in the post in the next paragraph, there is a magic synergy to that number 8 for us this past year or so.

As I wrote in previous posts and on my other blog here, we lost our previous dog, Pedro last December. It was very sad indeed but we are convinced he conspired with our tribe in heaven and the universe swirled to bring Leihla the ex-racer greyhound to us.

Leihla is a playful 8-year-old greyhound who loves to play ball and fetch with her tug-a-rope getting way down on her chest with her butt up in the air rotating her tail like a propeller in the air. She even tolerates Scampy the cat who thinks she can boss everyone around in our house. Because Leihla is a greyhound, and an ex-racer, she can never be off leash while outside. This has worked perfectly in her daddy’s favour as he’s her primary walker. She takes him on walks down to the river bank and all through the trails around our home and has managed to single-handedly bring his sugar level down 2 whole points.

Leihla has also managed to get me up between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. each morning as I feed her and I do the first morning walk. Prior to her arrival, being an afternoon person working from home, I rarely saw 8 a.m., nevermind 6 or 7 a.m. but here we are springing up and getting our exercise every single day, thanks to Leihla.

Happy Birthday Leihla and thank you so much for coming to rescue us.

Leihla the greyhound, scampy the cat, happy 8th birthday Leihla

Happy 8th Birthday Leihla! We give thanks for you this Thanksgiving Day

Until next time, adopt a greyhound, foster one, or just give to the great organization that does such wonderful work rescuing them after they have worked so hard and really deserve the best.

5 Ways to Help Your Local Animal Shelter

Hello There,

VivBounty here to bring you an article from my favourite Master Herbalist, Gary LeMon!

Perhaps you would like to help your local animal shelter but don’t have a lot of time or money. Consider these five ways. These ideas take little time or money, yet they can make a huge difference in the lives of shelter animals and volunteer.

Every Little Bit Helps
You can donate money in ways that you will hardly even miss. Follow these ideas for collecting money to give to an animal shelter.

Once a week, empty the loose change in your pockets or handbag. After a month, send a check to an animal shelter in the amount of the money you collected.

If you get weekly discounts at the grocery store or use coupons, put the money aside that you saved by claiming the discounts or applying the coupons. Add that amount to your donation for the shelter animals.

If appropriate for your place of employment, place a donation jar for the shelter at the front desk. Small amounts of change add up. For example, if thirty people visit your office daily and half of them put just a quarter in the jar, you will collect $3.75 in a day. In a five-day business week, that’s $18.75 a week, or $75.00 a month. If you can get one friend to do the same thing at his or her office, the donations will add up to $150.00 a month.
Have a yard sale to get rid of the things in your attic and basement that are no longer wanted. Pledge a percentage of what you earn from the sale to help your local animal shelter.

Collect Coupons You Don’t Need

When you find coupons you won’t use yourself, but they can be applied to items an animal shelter uses, save them for the shelter. Just be aware of expiration dates, though, so you are not giving expired coupons.
Give What You Already Have or Look Out for Great Deals

Many shelters publicize a list of things they need such as cat or dog food, toys, kitty litter, cleaning supplies, paper towels, or blankets. Look around your house for any of the items needed. You may also find some of those items being sold very cheaply at a garage sale. Snatch up the great deals and then donate the things to the animal shelter.

You could also send the shelter’s list of needs to your email contacts. You may find people who have items they would happily get rid of, but have never gotten around to it. You may be able to give them the gentle push they need.
Foster Care

Foster one or more of the animals waiting for their forever home. Be forewarned, however, that you may fall in love with them and happily keep them permanently. That’s a good thing, though, isn’t it!
Offer Your Skills

You may be really good at doing something that a shelter critically needs.

For instance, if you enjoy writing, offer to write newsletters for the shelter. News from a shelter always increases donations from people on their mailing list. The more frequently newsletters are sent out, the greater the donations. You will have helped your local animal shelter by doing something you love that has not cost you a cent.

If you are good at photography, take photos of the shelter animals and send them to your friends and relatives, or post the pictures at a public place or event. It is fairly easy for people to resist needy animals when they only hear about them. When people see the actual faces, however, those animals become real and harder to pass by.

Usually, animal shelters have a long list of repairs that need to be done. If you have carpenter or handyman skills, seriously consider giving your time to help get those repairs done. Not only will you improve conditions for the volunteers and animals, you may even be saving the shelter hundreds of dollars.

Even though you may not have much extra time or money, you can still help your local animal shelter during difficult economic times. Even small donations of time and money can add up to make big differences for shelter animals and volunteers.

Warm Regards,

An American Pit Bull Terrier named Kenya

An American Pit Bull Terrier named Kenya, was my very first dog
in my very first home of my own. I co parented her with the
best ever friend a girl could have for 2 years until I
moved abroad and she still holds a most special place in my
heart. My friend, Butch bought her for me so that I’d have a
companion and a deterrent against crime being a woman
living alone at the time. Funnily, at her house the only
person Kenya ever barked at was the postman. :)

Kenya the American Pit Bull Terrier, APBT for short, came
to me at 6 weeks old. Her parents were my friend’s
neighbours so I felt safe having a Pitt Bull. To my friends
and relatives who said they would never have one in their
home citing all the stories they’d heard about their bad
reputation as a breed, “It’s not the breed, it’s the
breeder and the training” was always my response and still
my belief.

The first weeks were full of smelly poop, nibbling at my
toes, lots of loving licks and short puppy breaths. I could
not have loved her more if I had given birth to Kenya.

For her own safety, training, obedience and needless to
say, the carpet and furnishings in my newly decorated home,
we decided we would crate train her. I cried along with her
those first few nights with frequent trips out to the
backyard in the wee hours of the morning (pun intended).

I read that if you put a ticking clock in the crate with a
puppy it mimics the mother’s heartbeat and comforts them. I
thought “chewing puppy plus plastic clock: not a good
combination”, so I wrapped the clock in rolled up socks and
that seemed to do the trick.

Once she was potty trained, Kenya did not sleep in the
crate, but on a futon in my home office adjacent to my
bedroom.

Cuddling my APBT puppy, Kenya

Kenya was so cute,
I couldn’t cuddle her enough

Crate training Kenya the APBT puppy for safety

How sad is that little face when
she first went into her crate!

We would wake early each morning, I would take her outside
for potty, feed her and she’d follow me around the house
while I had my breakfast and get ready for work for the
next hour and a half, then I’d put her in the crate and
leave for the day.

Each day for the next 4 weeks I would come home to the
lovely aroma of poop, drop my briefcase, put my glad rags
on and take her along with the crate out to the backyard
and wash them off, Kenya the puppy with warm water in a
bucket and then hosing the crate down after scrubbing with
baking soda and lemon paste. It was all a learning
experience like parenting always is. Each creature is
unique with their own personality and no guidebook covers
every possible scenario. Kenya came to love her bath as it
always meant lots of cuddles with Mummy because she smelled
so pretty afterwards and to this day is just so darned cute
and affectionate.

Butch saw to it that Kenya had the best of everything;
food, safe crate, toys, pooper scooper with extended
handle, and posh ceramic bowls so we wanted for nothing. He
is also a wonderful dad to Kenya to this day. When I went
on vacations he would pick her up and take her to his house
for a week or two. When my grandmother passed away after a
prolonged hospital stay, we got the expected and very sad
phone call at 2:00 a.m. I called Butch immediately to say
we’d be leaving for Toronto at daybreak and he naturally
came to pick Kenya up for a few days with daddy until my
return from the funeral. He kept her on the 2 occasions
when I had surgery until I recovered each time.

Kenya has one floppy ear which makes both her ears flop the same way looking like a windswept model.

The year we had her spayed, he was of two minds about the
whole thing. To him it seemed cruel to put her through what
he called “an elective surgery” (I begged to differ) and
when we picked her up afterwards seeing her in pain walk
gingerly to the grass outside the vet hospital to move her
bowels made him angry with me for insisting we do it. He
was so concerned for our baby, that he took the next day
off work to stay home with her at my house. At lunchtime he
phoned to say “I think someone’s got her mojo back” as she
was eating and eliminating normally. The next night we had
a professional social evening as we worked for the same
company and it had been planned for some time, my sister,
Kenya’s Auntie Odie, came over for the evening to take care
of her while we were out. That this dog, is a loved dog,
was never more evident than when I came home that evening
to find Kenya sprawled out on the futon and Auntie Odie
sitting on the carpeted floor in front of the futon
stroking her head as they watched television together.

When Kenya was about a year old we took her to Nanny’s for
Christmas. It was her first road trip and in the midst of
winter taking 9 hours instead of the normal 7 due to
weather and making sure Kenya had enough potty stops. As we
were crossing the border from the USA into Canada I had to
make sure she had all her vaccines and identity papers. We
travelled in Auntie Odie’s new Jeep and Kenya had the whole
back seat. Being a first time doggy mom, I wanted her to be
safe so Butch bought her a doggy seat belt. Well that
lasted all of 15 minutes. She kept stepping in and out of
it until she was all tangled up like the Cat’s Cradle
string game. Ironically, we had to abandon the seat belt
idea for her own safety. At rest stops Kenya never found a
scent she liked and would not have a poop. Still she drank
sips of water along the way and did make a few marker pees.
At the border as the official was examining our documents
and asking whose dog she was, she barked at him. He let us
through with a smile and as we pulled away from the gate I
said “You’re not supposed to bark at the cute border guard,
Kenya”, which she never did on the next few trips up to
Canada.

The next trip we took was in the summer to visit my friend,
Linda at her 5 acre farm complete with 3 horses, 3 dogs, 18
barn cats and ducks. Kenya just loved it in the paddocks.
The 7-hour drive home was filled with the lovely aroma of
horse manure. It’s a good thing Butch had leather seats in
his car and that Kenya loved her bath. He kept telling her
she smelled like a small horse. She hopped straight into
the bathtub on arrival home for a lovely scrub and more
cuddles once she was smelling all girly and pretty again.
She slept like a baby that night, dreaming a lot, running
in her sleep no doubt remembering her fun with the horses
and dogs at the farm.

Eventually when life took a surprising but joyful turn, I
went on a vacation to Spain where I reconnected with an old
friend, Brian who turned out to be my soul mate. Making the
decision to move to Spain was not easy, and taking Kenya
was not an option with the complication of my own
emigration. Heartbroken though I was about that, I knew
Butch would take excellent care of our baby. Still I didn’t
want her in the middle of all the shipping boxes and energy
of her home being emptied so we handled it like another
stay at Daddy’s. I took her and all her stuff to Butch’s
house a week before. We had a barbecue and spent a lovely
day together. She had her beloved futon, complete with
wooden frame to sleep on, all her toys, no more crate
needed as Butch also had her “sisters” at his house, Chanel
the staffordshire pit bull terrier and Shelby the
rottweiler whom she had visited with many times in her
life.

I missed Kenya terribly and as time went on felt really
guilty about adopting another dog in Spain. I called Butch
about it and he said she was happy with him and her sisters
and would never know any different so gave me his blessing
on her behalf. My husband Brian and I then adopted Pedro
the husky-podenco mix in Spain knowing Kenya was happy
healthy and loved.

Kenya went with her daddy, Butch to
Alabama for a while until they
eventually moved back to the ‘Burgh.
Now 10 years old she is healthy, happy
and living with her daddy, and his
beautiful wife, Marlow enjoying their
new home and back yard. In fact,
Marlow just tagged me in this photo on
Facebook, with a caption “Hi Viv. Love,
Kenya”.

I have seen comments on Marlow’s facebook saying how her
Nana loves Kenya and how well behaved she is, which warm my
heart knowing Kenya is so happy in her forever home with
only the best of everything,  just as it should be.

In a previous post I wrote about losing Pedro to cancer
last December after only 7 years. This post was meant to
precede the one about our newly rescued ex-racer greyhound,
Leihla, but as the greyhound picnic date crept up on me so
fast, I had to post about that first. Meaning no disrespect
to my first ever puppy daughter, Kenya I am so pleased I
finally got to write about her as she takes her rightful
place in the picture above with my other furry kids, I can
now happily blog on about all of them.

Until next time, rescue a dog or cat and have them spayed
or neutered. They will be happier and healthier.

Viral Photo Captures Attention and Hearts All Over the World

Hello, VivBounty to say I just have to share this to my cherish my pets blog. I never want to forget this sweetest, most beautiful story. I shall never forget these two.

” They say a picture is worth a thousand words but, it’s safe to say one of Hannah Stonehouse Hudson’s newest snapshot is worth millions” says Zach Vavricka

“It’s been viewed almost three million times; it’s been shared I think 150,000 times. It’s been like an incredible amount of times,” said Hudson on an overcast day in Bayfield. “My mother has a saying, “For the comfort and convenience of the dog,” and he is the epitome of this saying. He loves this dog, he takes care of this dog, his life is about this dog.”

Read the story here:

I’ve tried to include everything I possibly can to preserve copyright and rights to all who created and contributed to this lovely story of a man and his dog. My only intention is to share the love and if it brings more funds in to help with Schoep’s medical care, that will be the blessing we aim for.

Enjoy this divine union.

Adopting An Ex-Racer Greyhound Named Leihla

Hello there, VivBounty here to share with you the story of how we came to be Leihla the greyhound’s parents in her forever home.

After we lost our precious Pedro the Husky-Podenco cross, we were immeasurably sad. I missed my walks around the racing track in the Summer and on the trail in the Winter. My husband, Brian missed his morning tea-making companion and as he put it, “someone sensible to talk to in the morning”. I tried not to take offense as I knew the translation was “someone who wasn’t giving him a ‘to-do’ list as soon as he opened his eyes”.

As you will see in my last post, we lost Pedro last December. For the next 6 weeks Brian was on the Internet looking for another pal. He found the MGAP site riveted to it everyday. I’d be summoned to look at his computer screen several times a day; “this cute greyhound” or “that lovely face” or another one “just a pup but not fast enough to race” and on it went. I’d be interrupted and called away from chores, work and everything in between to be told about greyhounds as a breed, and all the dedicated research tidbits he came across. Finally I said that if we got a greyhound he would have to walk him or her. Pedro could be off-leash so Brian did not get any exercise at all, something he needs as a Diabetic. I thought this greyhound thing might work. In mid January he saw Leihla on the Maritime Greyhound Adoption Program site. She had been in a home for 4 years but was now needing to be re-homed. Being 7 years old, Brian thought that no one would want her and how that must feel so we would have her. Well it wasn’t up to us.

There is a stringent system in place designed to protect these beautiful greyhounds who have worked all their lives to match them with the best possible parents and homes for a well deserved retirement. To find out more about the greyhound adoption process click the MGAP banner in the left sidebar of this blog.

Our own experience was seamless, friendly and lovely. We first filled in an application. Then we took the online training class and quiz. We passed that easily and then it was time for a home visit. Christina, who is part of the MGAP group of greyhound parents phoned to make an appointment to visit with her greyhound, Bandit. She interviewed us while filling in a form as I pulled out Pedro’s doggy couch to make Bandit comfortable.

Bandit the greyhound on our home visit with Christina

Bandit the greyhound testing Pedro’s doggie couch to make sure Leihla would be happy in our home

Next step was for Deb who runs the greyhound adoption program to match us up with the best dog. Christina assured us that she was pretty spot on in her matchmaking skills. Lo and behold we ended up with Leihla! We love her name, we love the Eric Clapton song, we love that her great grandfather was named Kunta Kinte as I am African born and so Leihla and us are indeed a match made in heaven. The last week of January, Deb called us to make sure we still wanted to adopt that weekend and a time was set. We picked Leihla up, chose her new collars and her new coat and off we went with her a little nervous but so very excited.

Leihla the Ex-Racer Greyhound Adoption Day

Leihla the Ex-Racer Greyhound Adoption Day

We had to lift all 85 pounds of her into the back of our Ford Escape that first week but Brian a.k.a. king of the path of least resistance, soon had her hopping in and out of the back by week 2. He is also her main walker and 6 months after we brought her home, his 3-month sugar reading called the A1C in diabetes speak, has been the lowest it’s been in 5 years. Well done Leihla for walking daddy and well done Pedro for sending Leihla to us to keep daddy healthy. She gets along with Scampy the cat too and they look like twins.

Leihla the brindle greyhound and Scampy the light tabby

Leihla the brindle greyhound and Scampy the light tabby, matching sisters

We looked up Leihla’s racing records and found that she ran 26 races, won 3, placed 2nd in 6 and after running other hounds out of their lane a few times, one day she just decided she didn’t want to do this anymore and would not even get started. Much like her daddy, if she doesn’t want to do something, she just doesn’t. But she is very gentle, obedient for me and so well-behaved generally, even around children, other dogs and company over for supper. I want to get to the picnic video here but will give more detail of how wonderful MGAP and Deb make this process of adopting a greyhound in future posts so please do stay tuned.

This past weekend we attended our first MGAP Annual picnic for greyhounds and their adoptive and foster parents. This is not a fund raising event but more a day of appreciation the people who cherish these beautiful and regal hounds to give them the life they deserve in their retirement. Well I had the best day I have ever had in 5 Summers in New Brunswick and there was not a mosquito in sight! We put together a video of our day for you to enjoy below:

We hope you enjoyed the video as much as we enjoyed the day.

Until next time, VivBounty here to encourage you to consider adopting a greyhound and always cherish your pets!

In Loving Memory of Our Dog, Pedro

Hello there, VivBounty here to share with you the sad news of the loss of our dog, Pedro. We rescued Pedro in 2005, when he was just five months old. For seven years he gave us unconditional love and his beautiful markings got him and us more than his share of attention every where he went in the world. He literally was a world traveler, this dog.

Pedro the Husky-Sighthound Memorial Canvas

In Loving Memory of our dog Pedro

From Spain, through Europe and over to Canada, Pedro has traveled to more countries than some people. He traveled well and charmed people in all walks of life. A lady even stopped her car on the roundabout in Calais, France to exclaim “Quel beau chien”, in English, “What a beautiful dog”!

This is the announcement message we sent out in December to share our sad news:

Hello loved ones and fellow dog parents,

We are just writing with broken hearts to say, sadly, we lost our Pedro on Tuesday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m.

He went in for what we were hoping was a routine removal of a lump from his paw. The wound never healed. During the 3 nights he spent in the Vet hospital, we visited every day taking him cheese burgers and chicken nuggets to encourage him to eat. The tumor along with biopsies from several other lumps on his torso we had asked be tested were rushed away for analysis. On Friday, December 2nd, we brought him home for the weekend to see if being at home would help him heal, hoping he’d eat better if he was happy at home. We camped downstairs on the pull-out sofa around the fireplace in the den with him all weekend so he would not feel alone in his crate or like he’s being punished, and so as to avoid too much movement of the paw.

On Monday we went for a bandage change #3. Each time the vet looked at the wound she said she didn’t like it, that the cells were not acting like normal cells which should be forming connective tissue to seal the wound by now. On Tuesday morning back at home when we saw the bleeding was continuing, and he wasn’t eating at all, we rushed him back to the Vet. While we checked in to weigh him, etc. (his weight was down 5 lbs. over the course of the week), she called the pathologist who confirmed our worst fears. All the lumps were mass tumors of the worst kind, growing with those nasty tangling fingers and as aggressive as wildfire. She surmised that if these ones had appeared on the surface of his body, the cancer was likely through his major organs and particularly in his liver, as it grows from the inside out, hence his lack of appetite. There was no stopping the bleeding or no way to buy him any quality time, so we made the saddest decision of our lives thus far and opted to euthanize him. We are so very sad but did not want him to suffer any more. We thank you so much for caring. We know you understand what this feels like. The house is so quiet, Scampy, the cat is lost, but thankfully has started eating more normally. Slowly we are remembering not to leave a corner of every sandwich we eat for Pedro. Time will heal and we believe he’s with our “tribe” in heaven.

We are so very grateful for the condolence messages which poured in to comfort us, some of which we share here:

  • Sending healing and love, M xox
  • I’m so sorry that you had to let Pedro go I tried to keep a positive feeling about him but it wasn’t meant to be, you’re in our hearts and we feel for you, Mum
  • So sad to hear about your dog. At least he is no longer in pain. It must be very hard for u. It’s very hard losing a pet they really are part of our families. My thoughts are with u. G
  • My lovely friends, so very very sad about lovely Pedro, still trying to come to terms with losing our lovely old flloydie boy, i so know how you are feeling now, losing such a big part of your life is so hard to come to terms with and something only another dog owner can relate to. thinking of you both at this sad time love you both xxxx S
  • Dear friends,
We are so sad for you both,I was sure things would be ok.
We had to put our Glory down, our beautiful golden retriever, and my heart aches
    as I remember.We know your sorrow. God bless, R & A
  • I was so sorry to hear about Pedro. As you know I had a strong affection
for him and was also sorry to hear of his suffering. Just think of the
happiness he gave you over the years he was with you. Pets give us such
heartache when they leave us. I’ll always remember him. V
  • What sad news, and just before Christmas.  I hope you are all (Scampy included) slowly recovering from the loss – whilst a tough one, the decision was the right one to take.  It is horrible when these situations happen, but having gone through a similar experience with my previous cat, I couldn’t let him suffer just for my sake. P
  • Thank you for the lovely e-mail viv, I was really wondering what had happened to your wonderful boy, I am so sorry to hear, having had first hand experienced with Hope our coonhound and also Sniper and cancer with both understand how quickly and shocking all this is, my prayers and thoughts are with you both, Isabelle
  • I was really impressed of  the care both of you gave to Pedro.  I’m sure he’s gone from one dog heaven to another. We share your loss.  Now you will pamper the kitty. E
  • OMG – Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you! (and scampy), I know we dread the day when we have to say good bye!
I wished as I read your email – that I was close enough to hug you both!  I will the next time I see you!!! We will be thinking of you (especially when we are eating sandwiches)
    Sending our hugs/ love, K
  • I am so sorry to hear such heartbreaking news.  Words cannot help with the deep sadness that you have.  I send my love to you both with hugs and firmly believe, like you, that he is with your tribe now and will be watching and loving you from a breath away. G
  • I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our beloved Kane to bone cancer and, rather than put him through amputation and chemo, made the rest of his short life as wonderful for him as we could before making the hard decision you have had to make.
Ordinary people don’t understand that losing a dog is losing a friend, a family member a child even. And you can’t explain to them why they are suffering. We took great comfort from the Rainbow Bridge - it’s a bit corny but really helped me.
I’ve just re-read the poem and I’m crying for you as I type. With love, Jill
  • I am so sorry to hear about Pedro, it is so sad when you loose a family member
Our thoughts are with you at this sad time, Jackie
  • I am so so sorry for your loss. I know how loosing our beloved friends feels. I wish I had words to ease the empty place that is now in your home. I do know though that they find us when they come to us. They bring us love and smiles and so much warmth. They just love us and become our best friends. I know too that they go home , like we will too . However sad it is to lose him what he brought into your life is always there and ever once in a while his little spirit or essence will pass by you just to say hi. He was blessed to find a loving home with you both and you were blessed to have had such a dear and loving little being to be your companion. All we can do in this world is love the best we can and care for those we love and in that regard you have. He is home now free from pain and running in a field with the sun on his back. Love, prayers and blessings to you both. Denise
  • I am so sorry to hear of poor Pedro and the terrible loss you must feel. I’m sure you were there to help him through to the other side with your comforting words and love. I truly do understand the heartache and the hole left in your daily life. I lost my 22 year old cat, Cuddles on December 1st. She was only 6 months younger than my Daughter and was very much a part of our family. I assisted when she was born and I was fortunate enough that she used her last bit of strength to wait for me to come to her before she passed away, She was born into my hands and took her last breaths in my arms. How could that not be considered family. I’m sorry, I am tearing up as I write  for her and Pedro. I understand. Celebrate the time you had with him, put up his pictures and remember all the love you gave each other. I send my heartfelt sympathies and love, Jacquie
  • Just read your e-mail so, so very sorry to hear you lost Pedro.  I know exactly how you guys feel.  Love and sympathy Cookie :(
  • The poem from Judith at chikara-reiki-do.com ~ Hi Viv, We all know how awful it is to lose a best friend. Our words won’t help at the moment but we will all send some energy just for you.If It Should Be…If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.You will be sad, I understand.
Don’t let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test. We’ve had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
    You’d not want me to suffer so;
The time has come — please let me go.Take me where my need they’ll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I’ve been saved. Please do not grieve — it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
    We’ve been so close, we two these years;
Don’t let your heart hold back its tears.Author ~ AnonymousBig hugs, Judith :-)
  • Hi Viv, Brian & Scampy – you don’t know me personally, but we are connected via the Chikara Reiki Do healing list. I just read about Pedro’s transition out of his earthly body. . . .I am so sad for the loss in your home and sad that you (and Pedro) had to go through the heart-wrench of the last weeks.  I’ve lost two precious dogs to cancer and had to make the same hard choice about euthanasia. . . but of course I am so grateful we had that option.  It takes a huge amount of courage to love that much, right up until the last breath.  I have found so much comfort with the distance/timeless Reiki symbol HSZSN, and I will use it today to send a Reiki balm for you three & also for Pedro.  We know he is now in perfect health, perfect being, and of course you will be reunited.  Just want you to know there are Reiki folks who understand your sense of loss and I commend you on your exquisite care for Pedro.  Your love for him & his love for you will go on and on. . .Christmas blessings,  Sarah

For all that love and healing balm that sustained us through our grief and sorrow, we thank each and every one of you. Until we meet again, sweet Pedro, over the rainbow bridge, bathe in the Light and know that you remain in our hearts forever.

Love and Light to you all,

VivBounty

Scampy The Cat Is My Energy Sponge

Hello there, VivBounty here to let you know my cat, Scampy really is the keeper of my being. She used to hop up onto my lap when she was a kitten to get my attention and take me away from my computer. Back then I used to be able to let her sleep on my lap and just reach over her to keep typing. Clearly she’s outgrown that scenario.

Just this week, I had been on the computer too long and after trying the usual knocking my angel ornaments off the shelf without getting my attention, she finally just laid across my laptop in exasperation! It was just too cute, I had to share this photo with you. My mum always worries about me being on my computer too long aggravating an old neck injury. I’m convinced she and Scampy are in cahoots about this keeping me from sitting here in bad posture for too long. I am so grateful to her for her contribution to my well-being. She really does “feed off my energy” as my dearest friend, Linda once told me.

I can really see it when I’m stressed. If I’m on a phone call which is causing me anxiety I usually pace around the house. Scampy gets really anxious right along with me and starts dashing around the house over the top of all the furniture calling out to me and trying to reach me with her paws. It seems as if she wants to get in my face and tell me to calm down. Once I do and I sit she comes and curls up on my lap purring for a few seconds until she falls asleep confident that her job is done.

If I ever needed a visual of how certain people or activities affect my energy, Scampy is it in living colour. She even has a body clock. When I set an alarm to wake me in the morning, she hops up onto the bed meowing softly in quick short utterances and sure enough, a few seconds later the alarm goes off. I hit the snooze and for the next 5 minutes we snuggle until I have to get out of bed. It’s a good thing she is now over a year old and I can safely use Triple Sure flea and Tick Spray on her so we can enjoy our morning cuddles without any worries.

Until next time, make sure your pets are protected from all parasites and disease, naturally!

How I Cured My Dogs Dry Skin and Shedding

Hello There. VivBounty here with the story of how I stumbled up a cure for my dog, Pedro’s dry, flaky skin and shedding problem. It was the long way around, I must say, but proves to me that if you have a good team for your pet’s grooming and vet care needs, it makes all the difference.

Pedro is a travelling dog of mixed and varied ancestry. Each vet who has seen him has been fascinated and charmed by him. He’s a gentle giant who wouldn’t hurt a fly so making sure he’s treated with the tender loving care he deserves is our priority.

Luckily we have found a great group of carers who love dogs and particularly, Pedro as  such as we do to keep him healthy and happy. Read on for his journey to moist skin and
less shedding >>>>>

Until next time, hug your pets,

Do All Dogs Like to Swim

Hi There, VivBounty here with the story of our sight hound, Pedro who was raised by the beach in Spain and now lives in rural New Brunswick where there’s lots of water and lots of snow in the winter.

Pedro The Landlubber Dog on the Beach

As you may have read in other posts, Pedro is a mix of Podenco (Ibizan rabbit hound), Husky, and lately we’ve heard from our veterinarian in Spain, a possible ancestry of Pointer. Well I couldn’t tell you if any of those breeds are naturally inclined to swimming, but Pedro is not. He loves his bath, and happily hops in the bathtub, basks in the warm shower as I rinse him off, but will not go near “big water”. Read more here ->> Do All Dogs Like To Swim?

We did learn through the very hot summers in Spain to keep Pedro safe, cool and healthy without him actually going into the water.

Stay tuned for more information in my next post about emergency first aid for your precious canines.

Until then, hug your pets!

Prosperous Blessings,

VivBounty
